There is really no such thing as a ‘normal/ideal family.’ My most recent understanding is that the Queen (or was it the Queen mother?) was a kampvegter of projecting the image of the ideal family. What a sham! The very family who locked away their mentally challenged cousins.

After a few soul-soothing meals and kuiers with friends recently, hearing us all praise and complain about loved ones, i was reminded, (AGAIN!) that there really is NO SUCH THING AS A NORMAL FAMILY!

If anything, the norm is that there isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ ideal model- and those which claim to have found this self-righteous state of being…simply haven’t discovered their strange ones or are actively repressing their most challenging family members.

Wether you’ve got someone falling in the 10% gay percentile, a jailbird family member, ‘n-kommin-soos-grond wegsteek-enetjie, ‘n báie classy Rachmaninov fan, Dekat-leser, of wynplaas-trodder… ons almal het een of meer wat op pille of ‘n kruk moet wees vir volskaalse funksie. En… dis heel moontlik dáái spesiales wat ons elke keer verras of net vir ‘n oomblik lank ‘n heel nuwe perspektief verskaf.
